“Unlearning the Visuals” – Shaping the Future of Video Expression Launch of teaser movie & event information and start of tickets sales!

WOW magazine 205 - Oct. 3rd, 2022

From Saturday, October 15 to Sunday, October 30, 2022, WOW will hold “Unlearning the Visuals,” an exhibition featuring several never-before-seen original and new works, at Warehouse TERRADA E HALL.

“Unlearn,” the theme of the exhibition, means unraveling the things that we have learned to date, through both thought processes and with our bare hands, to then reacquire them as a new and visceral part of our being. Through “Unlearning the Visuals,” which is being held on WOW’s 25th anniversary, we will “unlearn” the many forms of visual expression we have accumulated to date and explore new forms of expression that will pave the way to a new era.
Launch of “Unlearning the Visuals” Teaser Movie
Ahead of the official opening of the exhibition on Saturday, October 15, this teaser movie offers a sneak preview with brand-new footage of each work. The movie provides a preview of the 5 new works featured at the exhibition, as well as the logo movie created as part of the WOW 25th anniversary project. Descriptions of the 5 works are as follows.

Viewpoints – a work where visitors view images affected by reflections and optical illusions created by multiple mirrors arranged across a space. Refraction – a work where visitors view “unfocused” and imperfect images with the help of the infinite “resolution” of human beings. Rotation – an interactive work where visitors can enjoy intuitive actions and videos. Festival Cornucopia – a powerful and immersive large-scale video installation created by WOW’s Sendai team based on the theme of “festive occasions.” Motion Modality / Passage with wind traces – a work that gives shape to videos, while seeking to fuse videos and architecture. We hope you are looking forward to the exhibition.
