BLUE OCEAN DOME, the large-scale visual work unveiled at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, will be specially screened at the Dome Theater of Miraikan - The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation starting Saturday, July 18, 2026. WOW directed and produced the content, creating an immersive visual experience that confronts Earth, the water planet, entirely in full 3DCG. This special screening offers a valuable opportunity to experience BLUE OCEAN DOME in Tokyo after the close of the Expo. This work was exhibited at the BLUE OCEAN DOME pavilion presented by the nonprofit organization ZERI JAPAN at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai. Under the theme of Revitalization of the Ocean, the pavilion conveyed messages about the sustainable use of marine resources and the protection of ocean ecosystems. Under the direction of Kenya Hara of Nippon Design Center, WOW used a convex hemispherical LED display approximately 10 meters in diameter to depict with overwhelming visual beauty the life that breathes within Earth and the worsening problem of plastic ocean pollution. During the exhibition period, more than 1.12 million visitors came to the pavilion, drawing wide attention as an experience that deepened interest in the ocean environment. This special screening will be held as part of an initiative by Miraikan - The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation to carry the achievements of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai into the future. The work has been specially localized to fit the approximately 15-meter-diameter Dome Theater, offering a vivid, immersive visual experience that faithfully recreates the immersive experience of the Expo. In addition, a special corner near the venue will feature documentary footage exploring paths toward restoring the ocean, among other content. Through this series of works, we hope to inspire a fresh look at the connection between the ocean and people, and to offer each visitor an opportunity to think about a sustainable future.
Large-Scale Visual Work “BLUE OCEAN DOME” Earth—a beautiful water planet that exists as if by miracle. This work depicts the brilliance of the chain of life unfolding in its oceans, together with the environmental changes occurring there at the same time. It portrays the ocean at a range of scales, from a macro perspective as if viewing Earth from space, down to a micro perspective at the cellular level. By combining hyper-realistic depictions with dreamlike imagination, the installation creates a video experience that functions as a consciousness-transforming device that resonates with viewers’ senses. The video was produced based on fieldwork in biodiversity-rich waters and supervised by the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology. Through WOW’s signature meticulous 3DCG, the work vividly and mysteriously depicts everything from the dynamic activity of living creatures to the state of ocean pollution, presenting visuals in which the beauty of nature coexists with a quiet message about environmental issues. In addition, the vocals of Hatis Noit create a resonance that seems to express the unheard voices of the ocean’s creatures, adding multidimensional depth to the imagery.
