“Yae no Sakura” Title back
NHK｜2013
This piece created by WOW was the title backdrop for the long-running historical NHK drama; Yae no Sakura. The concept, which was used for the first time at NHK, harnessed the talents of twelve sets of artists. Each artistic pair was responsible for creating a unique title backdrop; one for each month of the year. WOW was a co-creator for the month of March 2013.
The motif for this artistic piece was “cherry blossom” and “crystal”. By drawing on the phenomenon of crystallization, we hoped to express the never-ending passage of time, forever repeating its cycle from the distant past into the future. The coming of spring, represented by the opening of the cherry blossoms, portrays a bright and positive image of “future” and of “hope”. The title backdrop for the drama was set around Fukushima, and the keywords used were “eternity”, “future” and “hope”. This work was created as a prayer of hope for the ongoing recovery from the earthquake of March 2011.
