Radioactive Visualizer|2017
This installation detects radiation data from a Geiger counting device and visualizes the numerical data into light particles. These are then projected onto a human face. A “Radioactive Visualizer” was developed for use as a device to make radioactivity visible for this work,

The performer, hatis noit, uses the technique of overdubbing their own voice in real time to create a song that brings the Koran to mind. The rays of light pierce through to the skin, evoking the notion of “death,” and don’t simply condemn the radioactivity, but contain an oath to mourn for the future. The “death” and “sadness” in the rainbow tears created by makeup artist Noboru Tomizawa are metaphors that Chanel the idea of hope.

Quote from Asai the creative director on the piece:
“The issue of radioactive contamination from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant still hasn’t been solved.
Nuclear power plants continue to be restarted here, and there are still many being operated overseas.
Even if you see information from the media about “how many thousands becquerels are being discharged” for some reason it doesn’t home in a way that appeals to our emotions as a reality. So people gradually become unconcerned, and their thoughts towards it are numbed. The danger does exist, however, and is drawing closer to us. Can you not sense more of this intuitively? Can you not feel the pain and suffering of the people who are behind the facts?”

The dangers that radioactivity poses to life are causing the destruction of DNA, apoptosis, and cancer. The aim of this piece is to make radioactivity something that is visible, and to make the viewer feel it physically and to reactivate the ideas and thoughts that have stopped coming. Additionally, the fact that behind technological innovation there are reasons of economic growth and egoism, the lack of a value system that is “for humans,” and that great possibility and great risk coexist together are all shown using this piece.
