WOW animates the world

Exhibition, Spiral|2018
A large-scale exhibition WOW Visual Design Studio ー WOW animates the world was shown in the Spiral’s 1st and 3rd floors, as well as the Esplanade (M2F) in April 2018. In 2017, WOW celebrated its 20th anniversary so this exhibition was a retrospective on WOW’s past, present, and future. A large portfolio of work, both new and old, was on display. WOW continues to shape the world with the “power of visuals,” fusing ideas and history, technology and society. We hope we were able to express our vision of where WOW is heading from here.

A retrospective exhibition spanning the entire visual design range of WOW. Works included a video archive of WOW’s work, “wind form_03” installation of floating cloth, contemporary Japanese swords from “Hokkesaburo,” designed by global designer Marc Newson. Also, research exhibits of WOW’s birthplace Tohoku culture, original products from the product label “BLUEVOX,” a new version (debut) of the monumental work “motion texture 02” and “BAKERU” (Tokyo debut), in which viewers wear a mask and can “transform” into the fantastic creatures of Tohoku where WOW was founded. “RENDER” was a new art piece and first public viewing, which was inspired from nature and embodied the interaction of penetrating light represented on 20 transparent organic EL displays arranged as layers.

In total, more than 16,000 visitors came to see the 10-day exhibition. The venue was bustling with activity each day.
