From October 15 to 30, 2022 WOW will host an exhibition introducing brand-new original works for the very first time: “Unlearning the Visuals.” This is the second large-scale exhibition to display WOW works to the public, following on from “WOW Visual Design Studio: WOW animates the world,” a retrospective exhibition held in 2018 to mark the studio’s 20th anniversary.

This issue of WOW magazine will celebrate 200 releases. The WOW executive team, Hiroshi Takahashi, Mamoru Kano, and Kosuke Oho gathered at the head office in Shibuya for a three-way talk and discussed WOW’s origins, evolution, and future. Nobuyuki Hayashi, a journalist who has been covering WOW since its early days, will share the contents of the three-way talk in a special article as part of WOW magazine and WOW note.

“BAKERU School” Tour for 2022 has been decided

WOW has been touring elementary schools in Japan as “BAKERU School” since 2018 in response to the adoption of the Agency for Cultural Affairs’ “Promoting the Development of Children through Cultural Arts Project - Tour Performance Project. From June this year, we will be touring Tokyo, Saitama, Gunma, Ibaraki, Fukushima, Shizuoka, and Gifu.

“Special Exhibition: You and Robots ― What is it to be Human?”, which opened on Friday the 18th March, is the most ambitious robot exhibition in Japan's history. 130 robots, of around 90 different varieties, have been gathered in Odaiba, Tokyo for the event. WOW was responsible for the planning, direction, and production of the installation found in the “You and Robots ― What Does the Future Hold?” zone.
Nagoya Midland Square 15th Anniversary Event: Midland Anniversary 2022

Nagoya Midland Square will be holding an event for its 15th anniversary (Midland Anniversary 2022) based on the theme of travel starting from March 4 (Friday). WOW was in charge of planning, directing, and producing the main video that is being played on a special monitor imitating the boarding gate.

Beginning December 23rd (Thursday), Audi will be holding its special event, "Road to a Better Future," under the sparkling illumination lights at Roppongi Hills. WOW handled planning, directing, and producing for this work of installation art, which fuses the dynamic handling of the Audi e-tron GT, with brilliant displays of light.
WOW's Original Short Film “POEM”

“POEM”, WOW's original short film which was showcased for only 3 days at the WOW Short Film Festival this summer, is now available online. This work was produced as part of WOW's 25th Anniversary Exhibition Project to commemorate WOW's 25th anniversary next year.

WOW's original research project “The Shape of Prayer” focuses on the culture of prayer in Japan. The themes of "Katashiro", "Monyo", "Mountains", and "Sake", which have been associated with prayer since ancient times, were selected to create works through research and fieldwork, and the series of processes were recorded on video. The completed videos of all the works, as well as a making-of video of the research and fieldwork, can be viewed on the "The Shape of Prayer" website.
WOW Talk Vol.9 Expression, Technique and Improvisation Seen In “Contour”

"WOW AR" is an app that lets users enjoy works in which AR (augmented reality) and motion graphics, a forte of WOW, are used. It is released in the year 2020 with the goal to turn all environments into art installations. As a second release, 2 works of motion graphics are available.
REBORN ART FESTIVAL 2021-22

WOW magazine 188 - Aug. 10th, 2021

Held for the third time this year, the Reborn-Art Festival 2021–2022, a comprehensive arts festival, opens on Wednesday, August 11. With the help of Executive Producer Takeshi Kobayashi and Art Director Chie Morimoto, WOW will be participating in an installation piece that draws its inspiration from the song “forgive” by Bank Band.
